Brookside Community Fridge

Brookside Big Local, with support from the Parish Council, Brookside Central CIO and the Co-op, launched Telford’s first community fridge in September 2017. The fridge, stationed within Brookside Central, is open Monday-Friday 9am-4:30pm to enable residents and businesses to share surplus food.

Brookside Big Local have teamed up with the Co-op whose new food redistribution scheme – Co-op Food Share – is working to combat waste and increase the amount of healthy meals it can provide to those in need in its communities. 

Summer Together Project

After receiving funding from Telford & Wrekin Council as part of Telford @ 50 Legacy, Sam and Jackie organised, oversaw, planned and also delivered activities for the first two weeks of the project in conjunction with partner organisations including, Telford Chin Woo, Stirchley and Brookside Parish Council, Street Kings and Families in Telford.

The project proved to be a success for the families that attended. We will learn from this piece of work and look to refine delivery for the next sessions- which we are looking to plan for each school holiday – 

Zero Waste In A Box

Zero Waste in a Box (ZWB) were contracted by Brookside Big Local to explore the feasibility of projects aimed at addressing the issues of fly-tipping and littering on the Brookside estate in Telford.

The ZWB team consulted widely with stakeholders and undertook a wide range of research activities between November 2017 and April 2018.

Just Credit Union

Just Credit Union were granted £520 for a weekly drop in session for people to sign up to use just credit union to save. 

Brookside Central

BBL have supported the community taking over the day to day running of Brookside Central to make sure the centre stays open.

Age UK

Age UK run IT sessions for older people.  A grant of £500  was given to provide an IT tutor for a year.

Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice run a drop in session once a week for anybody to drop in to talk to them.

AYOS

AYOS were funded to deliver youth sessions over the Easter holidays in 2018. 

HomeStart

Homestart were awarded funding  towards offering –Something More, Mental health drop in session. Peer support home visiting.

Outdoor Gym

The Outdoor Gym was installed in April 2018 after 2 years of planning and consultations. The gym is free to use and accessible to anybody of any ability.

A Better Tomorrow

In February 2017 Brookside Big Local’s Partnership agreed to grant ABT £9,792 to cover the cost of a years rent, whilst the search for a 4 bed house to purchase continued. 

Burford Garages

Two garages were bought for a local ‘Men’s Shed’ project to run from. The garages are currently going through planning permission, before we can look into refurbing them.

Community Litter Picks

Brookside Big Local have been running regular litter picks around the estate. They have so far been extremely successful attracting an average of 25 local people of varying ages.

Baden Powell Scouts

The group were supported by £5,000 of funding towards buying camping equipment enabling the group to take local children away for summer camp every year.

Big Bang Event

The Big Bang Event takes place in November and is a public firework display. It is attended by many people from the estate. This event helps to create community safety by offering a professional firework display for free. 

Be Active in Brookside

In 2016 Brookside Big Local offered funding to help support locally trained instructors to deliver sessions across Brookside for local people.

MyFam Project

More than just a youth club, open to ALL abilities and show every child that socialising can be fun in ways that are comfortable to them!

Brookside Pre School

Awarded funding to update technology to streamline data input. Also, awarded funding to purchase Easi-ears to help children with specific learning needs.
